Preparing For The Next Day And Avoiding Burnout!

For most neurodivergent folks, mornings are not the easiest! But to ensure that you won't burn out, then you might want to consider setting yourself up the evening before in a way that is fitting to your brain!

Here's a simple guide:

  1. Brain Dump - Instead of thinking or overthinking what you need to do the next day, write it down at any point in the day or 15 minutes before bed.

Doing this will reduce any anxiety of "I know I forgot something".

2) Organize the Basics-

  • Prep lunch- I like salad kits. They are healthy, don't require a lot of thinking and good when you are short on time.
  • Lay out clothes the night before.

Have water bottles, keys and purse (sensory items, noise cancelling head phones) in a quick grab spot.

This helps in saving your decision energy.

3) Preview Your Day - Check for any social or sensory heavy activities.

I do this because it reduces surprises and helps me plan what I may need. Examples are : mini breaks or I may need to take sensory items, noise cancelling head phones.

4) Choose One Main Task- Just choose one task to accomplish for the next day and write it on your visual calendar. May I suggest two that I really like..1) Sweetzer and Orange Weekly to do List Pad https://amzn.to/47FzIvT 2) BOCT Digital Calendar https://amzn.to/4hqPFJX

I like this because you are guaranteed to accomplish it and that is a great way to feel!!

5) Chill Time - Now that all these prep tasks for the day ahead are done, end your night with something comforting. Some of my favorite ways to relax are reading a book under a weighted blanket https://amzn.to/3L3PMPv , taking a hot bath or listening to calming music.

Remember preparation for the day ahead does not have to look like productivity. It helps you find calmness and reduces friction. Now isn't that worth a try!
